Dr Heaney has several years of experience preparing expert reports for medico-legal work and other legal purposes. His original training was in the preparation of medico-legal reports and has contributed to the publication of a book on report writing in civil claims (Giles Eyre and Lynden Alexander, 2011).
Much of his work is centred on personal injuries and clinical negligence, but he receives a number of instructions in the legal areas of Crime, Family Law and Product Liability. He receives instructions on behalf of claimants, defendants, and joint instructions. He is happy to participate in case conferences, and will attend in person, particularly if conferences take place in London.
Dr Heaney has provided evidence to a variety of Courts, usually 2-3 times per year.
Medico-legal cases can take several years to settle, and to ensure his previous commitments continue to be respected he is not currently taking on new medico-legal instructions.
